Entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners will need to be at least 19 years of age. It is also recommended that they will hold a Level 3 qualification or above
in a related area.
About this qualification
This qualification provides learners with the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in children and young people’s services.
It has two pathways: Children and Young People’s Management and Children and Young People’s Advanced Practice, which cover a range of topics, including:
safeguarding and protection
managing care services, change programmes and recruitment
supporting development and partnership working
quality systems and improvement
developing and carrying out policy
promoting and developing best practice
care management
The Children and Young People pathways are named in the Apprenticeship Standard for Children, Young People and Families Manager.
Qualification structure
Learners must achieve 90 credits and a minimum of 66 of these credits must be at/above Level 5. Learners must achieve all Shared Core Mandatory Units (30 credits from group A), all mandatory units specific to their chosen pathway (from group C, D, E, F or G) and the remaining credits from Optional Groups H, I and J.

Assessment
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: inference of knowledge from direct observation of practice, expert witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy, portfolio of evidence or a task set by us*.
* NB: assessment tasks are provided for Tutors’ convenience. They are not mandatory.
All units must be assessed in line with the Skills for Care and Development Assessment Strategy.
Placement requirements
Learners will need to be working in the role of Deputy or Manager in an appropriate setting, or have the opportunity to carry out responsibilities associated with these roles, to be able to study for the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England).
Progression opportunities
It is anticipated that learners will be able to progress from advanced practitioner to manager status via this qualification. It is also anticipated that it will provide access to higher education opportunities.
